uncertainty

July 19, 2009

The x-ray is pretty gruesome.  The camp’s reassurance that skateboarding is a statistically safer than other sports provides little comfort to those of us in the unhappy segment of that data pool.  But you can’t live your life in a padded box, and there are risks involved with every activity.

Since deciding to do this trip (100%), we have been moving forward with the 50skatekid tour, knowing that certain events (including a medical emergency in the family) could derail our plans.  In the grand scheme of things, this is not the worst accident imaginable, but it does throw our plans into doubt.  What will happen when Logan’s cast is removed at the end of August.  Will we proceed on schedule?  Delay for a few weeks?  Call off the trip?

I guess this is another educational component of the 50skatekid epic: life is full of uncertainty.  “The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men / Gang aft agley” (Burns)
