distance learning

August 23, 2009

A recent article in Popular Science magazine mentions two college graduates who now live in India, while they study free MIT courses and work on arid land restoration projects.  They concocted this educational model, because graduate school was too expensive, but they wanted to continue to study and work in their field.  I salute them.

Distance learning is not a new idea, but it is greatly enhanced by the combination of OpenCourseWare (OCW) and global internet access.  I hope to take advantage of these educational innovations during the upcoming year, and will include my attempts in the page (above) labelled “school,” where I plan to post the 50skateAcademy curriculum and useful links and resources.
