family

December 20, 2009

An important element of this trip involves meeting people outside of our usual circle.  Today, we met my father-in-law’s uncle’s family in Baton Rouge.  We were treated to a home cooked, Louisiana meal and a tour of the city, including the LSU campus and Mike the tiger.  At one point, Logan mentioned that we had also seen the Mississippi River in Minneapolis (an observation more profound than any cartographical deduction).  We got to hear family stories from 70 years ago, when Logan’s grandfather would spend summers in North Carolina with his cousins.  They let us flip through a family history, compiled by another relative, and scan some of the photos and narratives.  (I’ll share them with Jessie’s family later this week.)  This trip always involves travel across geography, but today it also took us into the past and up Logan’s family tree.
