About
50skatekid is the story of an eleven-year-old boy on a mission to skateboard in all 50 states. The ride began in Wilmot Flat, NH, on September 1, 2009, and ended in Washington DC in May 2010.
The idea germinated during a frustrating homework assignment about North Dakota, when Logan declared that he “would learn more by actually going to North Dakota!” Somehow, this led to a discussion about hands-on learning and pursuing one’s passion (skateboarding, in Logan’s case). The result was a very interesting sixth-grade year.

Hi, Logan! I saw you in Smyrna, DE (where I was visiting my grandparents)- I was there skating with my big brother. I think what you are doing is cool. I am 11 years old also and I live in Virginia. I am planning to see you at Powhattan in May of next year and will be following you around the country on the website until then. If you get a chance sometime and if you want to, you can email me.
Wow! Thanks very much! See you in May!
Hey Logan –
What a great idea for a trip and a very interesting school year. We took a year off and traveled to all 48 of the contiguous states (we’d been to AK and HI) – and ended up writing a book on how to do it – Live Your Road Trip Dream (www.roadtripdream.com). I’m going to go do a blog post about you right now. have a great year. You can see more about our trip here:

When will you be in Portland, OR?
Carol White
Thanks! We’ll be in Portland in early February!
Hey,
I think what you are doing is just unbelievely great xD
I guess there still hope for the world after all =)
Peace, Spyxz
Thanks! I can’t believe it myself sometimes.
I’m a local to Las Cruces, NM. I saw you guys driving down N. Main and decided to look at what you guys are all about. I’m 20 years old and all though i’ve never been a skateboarder i’ve made my living in sport bike racing, endurance motocross, and welding. The way that you are using a passion to apply life skills and to learn general education is progressive. I use to wish on a daily basis that I could learn out in the world discovering it myself. I am a visual learner and I would have learned much much easier if I could have learned this way. I love what your doing and completely support you guys.
p.s. best thing to do at white sands is to take the wheels off an old skateboard, wax it, and sand board down it. I never was a fan of the sand disks. too easy haha
best wishes and safe travels!
Gwyneth, Thanks for your comment! I’m starting to realize that there are lots of students like you and Logan. I’m glad to hear you’ve found work that suits you. I often wonder where Logan will be in eight years. Thanks for your support!
